Our Cause

A Brother’s Message

Ryan's Ride is named in memory of Ryan Phua, my twin brother, born after after our dad's successful recovery from cancer. At the age of 2 1/2, Ryan passed away from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) on July 8, 2003.  Our family misses him in our lives every day, and Ryan's Ride is our symbol of love to celebrate his life.

We established the Ryan Phua Memorial Fund (Ryan's Fund) through the LIVESTRONG Foundation to support cancer survivorship programs. We hope that you can join our family at Ryan's Ride to honor Ryan's precious short life and create unforgettable memories with your own families. We assure that you will enjoy watching the joy of our young champions crossing the finish line.

Carpe Diem,

Matthew Phua

WHAT IS THE LIVESTRONG FOUNDATION

The LIVESTRONG Foundation exists to enhance the quality of life for those living with, through and beyond cancer. They do this by helping anyone affected by cancer, right now, through their free programs and services.

The Foundation promotes the optimal physical, psychological and social recovery and care of cancer survivors and their loved ones. The LIVESTRONG Foundation focuses its activities on community survivorship programs, national advocacy initiatives, scientific and clinical research grants, and survivorship education and resources, including LIVESTRONG, the Foundation's comprehensive resource for cancer survivors.

A portion of the monies raised in 2018 will be used to support the Pablove Foundation’s Shutterbug Program through the LIVESTRONG Foundation. Bay Area pediatric cancer patients aged 6 to 18 years old will have the opportunity to learn to express themselves, exercise their independence and practice new ways of seeing through the lens of a camera.  The 5-week program will be taught by professional photographers.   The program culimnates with a public gallery show.
